Government Committed to Providing Affordable and Quality Housing – Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde
Launch of Computerized Lottery for Sale of Flats and Plots Under Various Housing Projects in Konkan Region
Thane : Every common citizen dreams of owning a home, working hard to turn that dream into reality. To fulfill this aspiration, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is playing a crucial role. The government is committed to providing affordable and quality housing to the general public, stated Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde during an event today.
Deputy CM Shinde inaugurated a computerized lottery draw for the sale of 2,147 flats and 117 plots under various housing projects in the Konkan region at the Kashinath Ghanekar Auditorium in Thane.
The event was attended by Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, MHADA Vice President and CEO Sanjeev Jaiswal, Deputy CEO Anil Wankhede, Chief Officer of Konkan Housing and Area Development Board Revati Gaikar, Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao, MHADA Deputy Superintendent Vandana Suryavanshi, Chief Engineer Shivkumar Aade, members of the oversight committee, and other officials.
During his address, Deputy CM Shinde mentioned that a housing lottery was conducted last week for Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. He emphasized that strict instructions had been given to ensure no compromise on housing quality. He congratulated those who were allotted homes and assured those who missed out that they would have opportunities in future lotteries through the transparent system. The government is committed to ensuring affordable and quality housing for the common people. Over the past two and a half years, various welfare schemes have been launched for different sections of society, accelerating the state’s development.
Thane is witnessing multiple infrastructure projects, including metro construction, beautification initiatives, lake restoration, and traffic congestion solutions. Several stalled projects have been revived in the past two and a half years, and historic decisions have been made. The government is now introducing a new housing policy that includes provisions for affordable housing, rental housing, homes for senior citizens, working women, students, mill workers, laborers, police personnel, dabbawalas, and journalists. Special provisions are being made to provide housing for mill workers, recognizing their significant contribution to Mumbai’s development.
Deputy CM Shinde highlighted the transparency of MHADA’s lottery system, which has gained public trust. For the 2,264 flats available in this lottery, 31,465 applications were received, reflecting citizens’ confidence in the process.
He also announced the development of Asia’s largest cluster project in Thane, with work already underway at five locations. The ‘Cluster’ concept, introduced in Asia, aims to create a “city within a developed city” with sustainable infrastructure. The government is also boosting the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, with a target of constructing eight lakh houses in the next five years. The quality of completed housing projects will be inspected personally.
During the event, Deputy CM Shinde distributed homes to selected beneficiaries, who also shared their experiences.
The Konkan Housing Board covers five districts—Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg. The current lottery includes 2,147 flats, comprising 594 units under the 20% Inclusive Housing Scheme (Thane and Kalyan), 728 units under the MHADA Konkan Housing Scheme (Thane, Kalyan, Ratnagiri), and 825 units under the 15% Integrated Urban Housing Scheme (Dombivli). A total of 31,465 applications were received. These flats range from 23 to 50 square meters, with prices between ₹10 lakh and ₹35 lakh.
Additionally, a residential plot scheme was introduced in Oros, Sindhudurg, offering plots of 60 to 150 square meters (600 to 1,500 square feet). A total of 231 applications were received for the 117 plots available.
