Women Power and Youth Consciousness Strengthen Sanatan at Mahakumbh

Mahakumbh City – The Prayagraj Mahakumbh is scripting a new chapter in the expansion of Sanatan Dharma, witnessing a massive influx of people embracing its traditions. Among them, women and youth are leading the way. Following Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s appeal to strengthen Sanatan Dharma, this transformation has become more evident in Mahakumbh.

246 Women Initiated into Naga Sanyas at Sanyasini Akhara

Mahakumbh is also making history with the increased participation of women in Sanatan traditions. A significant number of women have shown interest in joining Akhadas. Dr. Devya Giri, President of Sanyasini Shri Panch Dashnam Juna Akhara, stated that this year, 246 women have been initiated into Naga Sanyasini, the highest number ever recorded in Kumbh or Maha Kumbh. In comparison, 210 women took initiation in the 2019 Kumbh. She further highlighted that many of these women are highly educated and have chosen this path for self-reflection and spiritual growth.

Over 7,000 Women Took Guru Diksha at Mahakumbh

Spiritual events like Maha Kumbh provide people with the opportunity to connect with Sanatan Dharma. With the divine, grand, and digital format introduced by the Yogi government, millions have participated in this sacred event. Across various religious camps, people eagerly joined Sanatan Dharma, with women forming a significant majority. Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Avdheshanand Giri of Juna Akhara, Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Arun Giri of Shri Panch Dashnam Aawahan Akhara, and several Vaishnav saints witnessed a surge in female disciples. This year, more than 7,000 women across all major Akharas took Guru Diksha and pledged their devotion to Sanatan Dharma.

Sanatan’s Growing Influence on the Young Generation of Women

A remarkable rise in the participation of young women has been observed at Prayagraj Mahakumbh 2025. Ipsita Holkar, a research scholar from Delhi University, studying the role of youth in Maha Kumbh, stated that survey data collected from various entry points—from Paush Purnima (the first bathing festival) to Basant Panchami—shows that four out of every ten visitors at Maha Kumbh are women, with nearly 40% belonging to the younger generation.

Further research conducted by the Govind Ballabh Pant Social Science Institute also indicates a rapid increase in the desire of the new generation to understand Sanatan Dharma. This growing enthusiasm among young women reflects the deepening spiritual consciousness at Mahakumbh 2025.
