Junnar Inaugurates District & Additional Sessions and Senior Civil Courts
Pune – Lawyers hold a significant responsibility in ensuring justice for litigants. Therefore, new lawyers must continuously study how senior advocates present and examine cases before judges. This continuous learning is essential for securing justice, stated Justice Revati Mohite-Dere of the Bombay High Court. She also emphasized that judicial infrastructure is being enhanced wherever necessary to ensure justice for all.
Justice Mohite-Dere made these remarks during the inauguration of the District & Additional Sessions Court and Senior Civil Court in Junnar. The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister and District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar, High Court Justices Sandeep Marne and Arif S. Doctor, Principal District and Sessions Judge of Pune Mahendra Mahajan, MLA Sharad Sonawane, and other legal dignitaries.
She stressed the need for adequate judicial infrastructure to prevent citizens from struggling for justice. The establishment of new courts in Junnar aims to address the rising number of cases and maintain public trust in the judiciary. As Pune is the largest judicial district in the country, expanding judicial facilities is crucial.
Highlighting the importance of fair trials, Justice Mohite-Dere urged lawyers to thoroughly examine cases, present evidence diligently, and act as protectors of people’s rights. She advised young lawyers to work hard, master legal provisions, and use them objectively to ensure justice for their clients.
Fast-Track Justice in Junnar Courts
The new courts in Junnar will expedite case proceedings, ensuring timely justice for citizens. Justice delayed is justice denied, and lawyers play a critical role in preventing unnecessary delays. She advised lawyers not to frequently request adjournments and to assist in resolving family disputes, seeking judicial intervention when necessary.

Development Plan for Junnar’s Old Court Building – Deputy CM Ajit Pawar
The old court building in Junnar, dating back to 1838, has historical significance, with past administrations operating from the nearby Bhuekot Fort. Considering demands for its redevelopment, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar instructed the judiciary, the archaeology department, the public works department, and legal associations to collaboratively draft a development plan.
Pawar emphasized the judiciary’s vital role in upholding democracy and assured that funds would be allocated for constructing necessary court infrastructure across the state. He affirmed that redevelopment plans for the Junnar court complex and residential facilities are underway, ensuring a landmark judicial hub for the region.
He further stated that judicial buildings should be well-equipped and citizen-friendly, with phased development occurring across the district. The inauguration of the Junnar court marks a proud moment in the region’s legal history, reducing travel time and expenses for litigants who previously had to visit Khed or Rajgurunagar for cases.
Strengthening the Legal System
The establishment of the new court will facilitate the resolution of criminal, civil, and legal disputes while providing opportunities for young lawyers to practice and expand their profession. Addressing demands from lawyers in Shivajinagar, he assured the development of clean sanitation facilities and proper infrastructure.
