Mizoram State Medicinal Plants Board Executive Body Meeting Held

Aizawl – The State Medicinal Plants Board (SMPB) Mizoram Executive Body convened today under the chairmanship of Pi Lalrinpuii, Minister of Health & Family Welfare Department. The meeting focused on reviewing ongoing initiatives related to medicinal plants and discussing various strategies for their continued development.

During the meeting, the Executive Body approved the publication of a book documenting medicinal plant studies conducted across six districts of Mizoram, in collaboration with Mizoram University (MZU) research scholars. Additionally, efforts to strengthen research and development (R&D) in the field of medicinal plants were emphasized. The “Herbal Garden of State Importance” project was also highlighted as a priority initiative for effective implementation.

The State Medicinal Plants Board was established in Mizoram on October 1, 2001, following the directives of the National Medicinal Plants Board under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, to promote and regulate the sustainable use of medicinal plants at the state level. Since 2015, the board has been functioning under the AYUSH Department.

SMPB Mizoram continues to play a crucial role in conservation, research, and promotion of medicinal plants, ensuring proper management and utilization through various initiatives.

The meeting was attended by representatives from multiple departments associated with medicinal plants, as well as members from Mizoram University (MZU) and RIPANS, who contributed valuable insights on research and policy recommendations.
