Tamil Nadu CM Inaugurates ₹1,141.23 Crore Road Expansion Project

Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M.K. Stalin, inaugurated the expanded and upgraded Seyyur-Palayur Link Road, part of a 109 km-long road project connecting Seyyur, Thenthondi, and Kabalur, with a total cost of ₹1,141.23 crore.

Recognizing the crucial role of road infrastructure in economic growth, employment, tourism, and connectivity, the Tamil Nadu government has prioritized road expansion and maintenance. Since May 2021, under the Integrated Road Development Scheme, 16,421 km of highways and district roads have been upgraded, along with the construction of over 2,000 bridges. The Chief Minister’s Road Development Plan has widened and improved 2,130 km of key roads, and over 5,000 km of rural and other roads have been upgraded.

This newly upgraded stretch, funded with assistance from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) under the Chennai-Kanyakumari Industrial Corridor Project, now features widened roads, modern safety infrastructure, and improved transportation facilities. It includes flyovers, bridges, culverts, streetlights, bus shelters, and extensive roadside tree planting (47,700 trees).

Additionally, three major towns—Marudadu, Thenthondi, and Kottupattu—now have bypass roads, reducing congestion and improving connectivity. This project benefits 67 villages in Chengalpattu and Thiruvannamalai districts, enhancing access to markets, schools, colleges, and hospitals.

The inauguration event was attended by Minister for Public Works, Highways, and Minor Ports Thiru E.V. Velu, along with senior government officials.
