Sanitation Workers Set a New Guinness World Record at Maha Kumbh
15,000 Sanitation Workers Sweep Together to Create History
Prayagraj: The Maha Kumbh 2025 has not only stood as the world’s largest religious and spiritual gathering but has also emerged as a model of cleanliness under the inspiration of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. In a historic event, 15,000 sanitation workers collectively swept across four designated zones in the Kumbh Mela area, setting a new Guinness World Record. This effort broke the previous record set during Kumbh 2019 by the Prayagraj Mela Authority itself.

On February 24, the record-setting event was witnessed by Prayagraj Mayor Ganesh Kesarwani, Maha Kumbh Special Officer Akanksha Rana, and an official observation team from the Guinness World Records. The large-scale cleaning drive covered a stretch of 10 kilometers, symbolizing a global message of cleanliness from Maha Kumbh to the world.
Guinness World Record Achieved
Maha Kumbh 2025 is becoming known not just for its grand religious significance but also for its global records. While the participation of 630 million devotees in the sacred Triveni bath itself is a record, the commitment to cleanliness has now set another milestone. The final confirmation of the Guinness record will be announced in three days. Chief observer and judge Rishi Nath, along with his team from the Guinness World Records headquarters in London, was present to oversee the process. The entire event was verified using scan-coded wristbands assigned to each sanitation worker, ensuring accuracy in counting.

A Global Message of Cleanliness
By surpassing its 2019 record of 10,000 sanitation workers sweeping together, Maha Kumbh 2025 has reinforced its commitment to cleanliness. Under the guidance of Ganga Sevaks and sector magistrates, four major locations—Helipad Sector-2, Salori Nagvasuki area, Arail, and Jhunsi—witnessed 4,000 sanitation workers each participating in the massive cleaning drive.
Speaking at the event, Prayagraj Mayor Ganesh Kesarwani emphasized that this record-breaking initiative sends a strong message of cleanliness worldwide. He stated that it will inspire people to embrace cleanliness as a way of life and actively participate in keeping their surroundings clean.
10-Kilometer Cleaning Drive Sets an Example
Uttar Pradesh’s Minister for Urban Development & Energy, A.K. Sharma, highlighted the invaluable contribution of sanitation workers in making Maha Kumbh a success. He acknowledged their relentless efforts in keeping the Kumbh Mela grounds clean and commended their dedication.
He further added that the 10-kilometer-long cleaning drive demonstrates India’s commitment to hygiene and environmental sustainability. This achievement is a testament to the unity and devotion of thousands of sanitation workers who played a vital role in maintaining the sacred site’s cleanliness.
On this historic occasion, officials encouraged citizens to view cleanliness not just as a single-day effort but as a lifelong habit, ensuring a cleaner and healthier India. The legacy of Maha Kumbh’s cleanliness drive will continue to inspire future generations.
