CM Stalin Inaugurates ₹8 Cr ‘Kalaignar Centenary Boxing Academy’ in Chennai
Honorable Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the ‘Kalaignar Centenary Boxing Academy’ in Chennai’s Kovilambakkam, built at a cost of ₹8 crore, under the Department of Youth Welfare and Sports Development on February 25, 2025.

Tamil Nadu aims to become a leading state in sports, providing world-class training and infrastructure for athletes to excel at national and international levels. The government has launched various initiatives, including the ‘Tamil Nadu Champions Foundation,’ to develop sports infrastructure and nurture talent.
As part of these efforts, the construction of the boxing academy was announced on November 2, 2023, and has now been completed with state-of-the-art facilities. The academy features a modern, air-conditioned indoor stadium with a seating capacity of 890, training halls, a gym, coaching rooms, and medical and administrative offices.
During the event, CM Stalin inaugurated a boxing competition in the Fly Weight (48-51 kg) category and felicitated winning boxers. The academy will significantly benefit aspiring boxers in Chennai and surrounding areas, providing them with professional training and increasing opportunities for national and international success.
The inauguration was attended by Minister for Youth Welfare & Sports Udhayanidhi Stalin, Minister P.K. Sekar Babu, Chennai Mayor R. Priya, MP Dayanidhi Maran, MLAs, officials, and other dignitaries.
