Chief Minister Directs Completion of MGNREGA Projects with Quality and Timeliness
Emphasis on Integrating MGNREGA with Other Schemes to Accelerate Rural Development
Raipur : A meeting of the Chhattisgarh Rural Employment Guarantee Council, chaired by Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, was held today at the Chief Minister’s office in the Assembly complex. The meeting focused on reviewing the ongoing projects under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that all MGNREGA projects are executed with the highest quality standards and within stipulated timelines, enabling maximum rural households to benefit from the scheme.
CM Sai emphasized prioritizing the construction of rural access roads (Dharsa Path) and the Amrit Sarovar projects to strengthen rural infrastructure and promote water conservation.
Self-Reliance Through MGNREGA
During the meeting, CM Sai stated that the Chhattisgarh government’s goal is not just to provide employment but to make rural areas self-reliant. He stressed that MGNREGA projects are being implemented with a long-term vision to ensure comprehensive rural development. He instructed officials to maintain transparency and accountability in project execution so that the scheme serves as a strong foundation for empowering the poor. The state government is actively working on integrating MGNREGA with other schemes to accelerate rural development.
Detailed Review of MGNREGA Implementation
The meeting included a comprehensive review of the progress of FY 2023-24 and 2024-25, the labor budget for 2025-26, key performance indicators of the scheme, and the convergence model. The annual progress report from 2019-20 to 2023-24 was also presented.
MGNREGA Commissioner Shri Rajat Bansal reported that out of 38.52 lakh registered families, 24.89 lakh families have been provided employment under the scheme. Under the Amrit Sarovar Yojana, a target of 2,902 reservoirs has been set, with 1,095 already approved, 299 completed, and 472 currently under progress.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Shri Arun Sao and Shri Vijay Sharma, Chief Secretary Shri Amitabh Jain, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Subodh Singh, Principal Secretary Smt. Niharika Barik, Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. Basavaraju S, Shri P. Dayanand, Shri Rahul Bhagat, MGNREGA Commissioner Shri Rajat Bansal, and members of the Chhattisgarh Rural Employment Guarantee Council.
