US Military Confirms Houthi Missile Strikes on Two Ships in Gulf Of Aden
Yemen’s Houthis damaged two commercial vessels in missile attacks in the Gulf of Aden within the last 24 hours, US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported on Sunday.
In a statement posted on X, CENTCOM said one missile struck a Liberian-flagged, Swiss-owned and operated container ship. The Houthis previously claimed to have hit the Tavvishi and Norderney, alleging they set the latter ablaze.
The Houthis, who control the most populous parts of Yemen, have been attacking merchant ships since November in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. The militants have sunk one ship, seized another vessel, and killed three crew members in separate attacks. Despite reporting damage, the ship involved in the recent missile attack continued its journey.
Additionally, the Houthis launched two missiles into the Gulf of Aden. Both missiles struck an Antigua and Barbuda-flagged, German-owned and operated cargo ship, which also reported damage but continued its journey.
CENTCOM also stated that its forces successfully destroyed a drone over the Gulf of Aden, along with two Houthi land-attack cruise missiles and one missile launcher in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen.
