Voting for 5 Maharashtra Legislative Council Seats on March 27
Mumbai : The Election Commission of India has announced biennial elections for five seats in the Maharashtra Legislative Council. These seats, elected by the members of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, have fallen vacant due to the resignation of the previous members.
The terms of the outgoing members were as follows: Aamshya Fulaji Padavi (until July 7, 2028), Pravin Prabhakarrao Datke (May 13, 2026), Rajesh Uttamrao Witekar (July 27, 2030), Ramesh Kashiram Karad (May 13, 2026), and Gopichand Kundalik Padalkar (May 13, 2026). However, since these members were elected as MLAs on July 23, 2024, the Election Commission has now announced the schedule for the biennial elections to fill their vacant Legislative Council seats.
The election notification will be issued on Monday, March 10, 2025. Candidates can submit their nomination papers until Monday, March 17, 2025. The scrutiny of nominations will take place on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is Thursday, March 20, 2025. Voting will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 9 AM to 4 PM, followed by the counting of votes on the same day after 5 PM. The entire election process will be completed by March 29, 2025, as per the official statement released by the Election Commission of India.
