Women of Balod Set an Example of Self-Reliance

New Path to Economic Empowerment Through Herbal Gulal Production

Raipur : The women of Balod district are playing a crucial role in making this year’s Holi festival safer and more special. A total of 172 women from 20 clusters across all development blocks of the district have come together to produce herbal gulal, ensuring a chemical-free and eco-friendly celebration. This initiative is not only providing an additional source of income for these women but also spreading awareness about celebrating Holi in a safe and sustainable manner.

The herbal gulal is made using natural ingredients like Palash flowers, beetroot, Sindoor seeds, spinach, and raw turmeric, making it skin-friendly and environmentally safe. This year, the women have collectively produced around 50 quintals of herbal gulal, out of which 26 quintals have already been sold in local markets and other districts. This initiative is proving to be a strong means of economic empowerment for them.

Om Lata Deshmukh from Vrindavan Mahila Sankul Sangathan, Jamruwa, shared that their group had produced herbal gulal last year as well. However, due to increased demand, they have doubled their production this time. She mentioned that the herbal gulal is in high demand because it is completely natural and does not cause any harm to the skin. Vidya Yadav and Manisha Kunjam, members of the group, stated that they are benefiting from the Bihan Yojana, which is helping them become financially independent. Additionally, they are receiving support from the Mahatari Vandan Yojana, which is providing them with continuous motivation and assistance.

The women expressed their gratitude to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, acknowledging his leadership in promoting livelihood activities for women and fostering economic independence. They extended their best wishes for Holi to the residents of the district and urged everyone to use herbal gulal instead of chemical-based colors for a healthier and eco-friendly celebration.
