Lucknow : Launched in 2017 by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana has become a lifeline for economically weaker families, ensuring their daughters a dignified and secure start to married life. Over the past eight years, the scheme has facilitated the weddings of 4,76,207 underprivileged girls, immensely relieving thousands of struggling families.
Implemented by the Social Welfare Department, the initiative extends support to families with an annual income of up to ₹2 lakh, enabling them to marry their daughters with dignity. Beyond financial assistance, the scheme upholds social justice, inclusivity, and women’s empowerment, making it a transformative step towards equality.
Under this initiative, the state government provides ₹51,000 per couple—₹35,000 directly credited to the bride’s account for a fresh start, ₹10,000 for essential items like clothes and jewelry, and ₹6,000 for organizing the wedding ceremony. More than just financial aid, the scheme instills a sense of social security and empowerment, alleviating the burden of marriage expenses for struggling families.
The Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana has become a symbol of economic cooperation and social welfare, reinforcing the Yogi government’s commitment to uplifting the weaker sections of society in Uttar Pradesh.
More than just financial aid, CM Yogi Adityanath’s Samuhik Vivah Yojana is fostering social unity and inclusivity. Under this initiative, weddings of couples from all religions and communities—including Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians—are conducted by their religious traditions, promoting mutual harmony and brotherhood in the state.
Special arrangements ensure that every couple ties the knot with dignity, making this scheme a significant step towards reducing social disparities and providing equal opportunities for all.
Since its launch, the number of beneficiaries has been rising rapidly. In 2020-21, 22,780 couples benefitted from the scheme, while in 2023-24, the number surged to 1,04,940. For 2024-25, over one lakh couples have already been married under this initiative. To support this growing impact, the Yogi government has allocated ₹600 crore for the scheme, reaffirming its commitment to alleviating financial stress for underprivileged families.
To ensure seamless execution, the Municipal Corporations, Nagar Panchayats, District Administration, and Area Panchayats have been entrusted with key responsibilities, from beneficiary selection to overseeing wedding arrangements. To enhance the effectiveness of each ceremony, the number of couples married per event has been reduced from 10 to 5, allowing for better management and personalized arrangements.
Beyond just weddings, the scheme empowers newlyweds through awareness programs on various government initiatives, helping them build a self-reliant future. The scheme ensures that daughters begin their new journey with dignity and security by easing the financial burden on families—many previously relied on loans for their daughters’ marriages.
The Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana embodies “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,” symbolising social equality, economic support, and family security. It enables underprivileged families to celebrate weddings respectfully and fosters a society built on harmony, inclusivity, and shared progress.
