New Zealand PM Discusses Mumbai’s Development with Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, Expresses Satisfaction Over City’s Transformation
Mumbai : During his visit to Mumbai, New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon engaged in discussions with Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde regarding the city’s transformation and ongoing development projects. The meeting took place at Raj Bhavan, where Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan hosted a formal luncheon in honor of the visiting Prime Minister.
Deputy CM Shinde briefed Prime Minister Luxon on various initiatives, including efforts to make Mumbai slum-free and provide housing for the general public, as well as steps taken to strengthen the city’s economic capacity as India’s growth engine. Luxon showed keen interest in Mumbai’s deep-cleaning initiatives and internal sanitation improvements.
Shinde also highlighted the impact of infrastructure projects like the Coastal Road and Atal Setu in streamlining traffic and the Metro’s role in enhancing daily commuter transport. The discussion extended to environmental concerns, where the New Zealand Prime Minister inquired about measures being undertaken to address sustainability. Additionally, both leaders exchanged views on the global promotion of yoga for better health.
A high-level delegation accompanying Prime Minister Luxon participated in discussions on green energy, sports, education, agricultural technology, and fisheries, among other topics.
The luncheon was attended by Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, Maharashtra Legislative Council Chairman Prof. Ram Shinde, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar, Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai, and Protocol Minister Jaykumar Rawal. The New Zealand delegation included former Governor-General of Indian origin Sir Anand Satyanand, cricketer Ajaz Patel, media officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, senior diplomats, and business representatives. Also present were Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar and Additional Chief Secretary (Protocol) Manisha Mhaiskar.
