Nagpur : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed authorities to take strict action against rioters who disrupt peace in Nagpur. He emphasized that law and order must be upheld to prevent such incidents in the future.
Chairing a review meeting with senior police officers, the District Collector, and the Municipal Commissioner, the CM assessed the law and order situation following recent disturbances in the city. The meeting was attended by Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Police Commissioner Dr. Ravindra Singal, IG Dilip Patil-Bhujbal, District Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar, and other senior officials.
CM’s Directives:
Strict action against rioters: Despite police intervention against an afternoon protest related to Aurangzeb, miscreants incited violence in the evening, resulting in arson, property damage, and injuries to 34 police personnel. The CM instructed the police to remain vigilant and prevent any further incidents.
Curfew and arrests: Section 144 has been imposed in 11 police station jurisdictions, and 104 people have been arrested, including 12 minors. CCTV footage and publicly shared videos are being analyzed to identify additional culprits. No rioter will be spared.
Social media scrutiny: Authorities have identified 250 inflammatory posts, and 62 individuals have been booked, with two arrests already made. Those who post or share such content will be held co-accused in riot cases.
Compensation from rioters: Property damage includes 71 vehicles and other assets. Riots-related losses will be recovered from the offenders by seizing and auctioning their property. The Municipal Corporation, District Administration, and Police will work together on this.
Support for affected citizens: Damage assessments are underway, and compensation will be disbursed within 3-4 days. Insurance companies will be provided necessary documents for vehicle claims.
Appeal for Public Cooperation:
With upcoming festivals and community events, the CM urged citizens to cooperate with authorities to maintain peace. He assured that strict measures will be taken against anyone disturbing law and order.
The Police Commissioner presented a detailed report on the incidents, assuring firm action against all culprits.
