Healthy Lunglei District Campaign Progress Reviewed by Deputy Commissioner

Lunglei – The Deputy Commissioner of Lunglei, Pi Navneet Mann, convened a meeting at the Lunglei DC Conference Hall today to review the ongoing Healthy Lunglei District Campaign. The session focused on awareness and preventive measures against non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and discussed strategies for further progress.

The meeting was attended by officials from the Deputy Commissioner’s office, the Health & Family Welfare Department, the Information & Public Relations Department, and representatives from the Mizoram Ṭhalai Kristian Pawl (MṬKP). During the session, Sub-Deputy Commissioner Pi Lalhlimpuii Pachuau, District Immunisation Officer Dr. Christina Zonunmawii, and MṬKP Secretary Rev. F. Zorinkhuma presented reports on various screening and awareness programs conducted under the campaign. They also discussed the initiatives implemented and future plans to strengthen the campaign.

Deputy Commissioner Pi Navneet Mann expressed satisfaction with the campaign’s progress since its launch in June 2024 and highlighted its positive impact on public health awareness. She emphasized the importance of self-screening for NCDs, better understanding of individual health conditions, and the need for continued awareness programs on healthy eating habits, hygiene, and disease prevention. She assured that further steps would be taken to enhance the campaign’s outreach.

The Healthy Lunglei District Campaign, launched by Health Minister Pi Lalrinpuii on June 12, 2024, aims to improve healthcare accessibility and disease prevention in Lunglei District. The campaign has conducted extensive NCD screenings and awareness programs in various localities. A pilot project, initiated in December 2024 in collaboration with MṬKP, targeted three pastoral units—Bazarveng, Rahsiveng, and Theiriat—along with 14 sub-units, conducting health awareness sessions and medical check-ups.

Between 2024 and the first quarter of 2025, the campaign has organized 39 NCD awareness and screening camps, covering 1,863 individuals (903 men and 960 women). Screening results revealed:

  • 282 new cases of hypertension (165 men, 117 women), with 112 cases requiring further evaluation.
  • 126 new cases of diabetes mellitus (73 men, 53 women), with 82 cases needing further assessment.

The campaign has been financially supported by contributions from Lunglei’s five MLAs, allocations from the DC Office, and integration with various health and government initiatives. To sustain and expand the campaign, the Lunglei Deputy Commissioner’s Office signed an MoU with RailTel Corporation of India Limited, New Delhi, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program in October 2024. Through this agreement, ₹18.92 lakh was secured, with an initial disbursement of ₹4.73 lakh already received. These funds are being utilized to strengthen and expand the campaign.

The Healthy Lunglei District Campaign continues to make significant strides in improving public health and preventing non-communicable diseases across the district.
