₹16,390 Crore GST Collection in FY 2024-25, Records Historic 18% Growth

Raipur : Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Chhattisgarh has achieved yet another significant milestone. In FY 2024-25, the state recorded a GST revenue collection of ₹16,390 crore, marking the highest annual growth rate of 18% in the country. This achievement positions Chhattisgarh as the top-ranking state in GST revenue growth, followed by Maharashtra (16%) and Tamil Nadu (15%).

GST Revenue Surpasses ₹2,000 Crore in March 2025 for the First Time

For the first time, Chhattisgarh’s State GST (SGST) collection crossed the ₹1,000 crore mark in March 2025, reaching ₹1,301.09 crore, a 72% increase compared to March 2024. Additionally, ₹756.73 crore was collected under Integrated GST (IGST), reflecting a 10% year-on-year growth. The total GST collection for March 2025 stood at ₹2,057.82 crore, a remarkable 43% increase from ₹1,443.66 crore in March 2024, making it the highest monthly GST collection since the implementation of GST.

Strategic Reforms and Technological Advancements Drive Success

This outstanding growth is a result of wide-ranging reforms, innovations, and a new work culture in the Commercial Tax Department, implemented under the guidance of CM Vishnu Deo Sai and Finance Minister O.P. Choudhary. The government has introduced proactive, transparent, and result-driven GST administration to enhance tax compliance and revenue generation.

Key Measures That Boosted GST Revenue

  • Strict Monitoring of Non-Filers:
    • Continuous surveillance and engagement with traders improved GST return compliance, reducing non-filers from 15% to just 6%.
  • Crackdown on Fake Registrations:
    • 28,000 businesses underwent physical verification, revealing 4,252 fraudulent firms (15% of total registrations), effectively curbing tax evasion.
  • Data-Driven Tax Enforcement:
    • 313 cases were identified through data analytics, leading to ₹45.13 crore recovery.
    • 77 establishments faced searches/inspections, yielding ₹47.35 crore in additional revenue.
  • Sector-Wise Tax Evasion Analysis & Inter-Departmental Coordination:
    • 49 high-risk sectors were identified, resulting in ₹101 crore tax recovery.
  • Government Departments’ Improved Compliance:
    • Special efforts in March 2025 ensured ₹37 crore additional revenue through GSTR-7 return filings by government suppliers.
  • Statewide Trader Engagement Drive:
    • 36,847 traders with zero returns or negative growth were approached to improve compliance, leading to a significant boost in tax collections.

Future Roadmap: AI & Digital Strategies for Sustained Growth

The GST department, under the guidance of CM Vishnu Deo Sai and Finance Minister O.P. Choudhary, is now focused on digital tracking, AI-based monitoring, and advanced compliance mechanisms to maintain Chhattisgarh’s leadership in GST growth.
