Chardham Yatra 2025 to See New Security and Traffic Arrangements
Dehradun: For the first time, the Chardham Yatra route will feature an extensive new security and traffic management system to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage experience. The route has been strategically divided into Super 15 zones, 41 zones, and 137 sectors, with each sector covering a 10-kilometer stretch. Each sector will have round-the-clock patrolling and supervision by dedicated police personnel.
Over 6,000 police officers and staff will be deployed across the Yatra route to manage security, crowd control, and traffic. A significant development this year is the establishment of a 24-hour control room within the Garhwal Range office to oversee all Yatra-related activities. This control center will be led by SP Traffic Dehradun, Lokjeet Singh, while IG Garhwal Range, Rajiv Swaroop, has been appointed as the nodal officer for the Chardham Yatra 2025.
In a joint press conference held on Friday, IG Garhwal Range Rajiv Swaroop and Director of Traffic, NS Napalchal, outlined the detailed preparations. IG Swaroop stated that he would personally monitor security, traffic regulation, crowd management, and disaster preparedness throughout the Yatra.
The control room will be fully operational within five days and will be staffed with a DSP, two inspectors, four sub-inspectors, and a team of head constables and constables. Additionally, a special coordination desk will be set up to ensure seamless communication with other government departments and services.
To further streamline the operations, a separate Chardham Cell is being established at the state police headquarters under the leadership of DIG Law and Order, Dhirendra Gunjyal. This cell will collect and manage all information related to the Yatra.
Moreover, nine ASP-rank officers have been appointed as route in-charges, each responsible for specific stretches of the Yatra. In addition, one DSP officer has been designated as the Dham in-charge for each of the four Dhams. These officers will be responsible for overseeing all facilities and operational arrangements in their respective areas.
To strengthen surveillance, the coverage of CCTV cameras is also being significantly expanded along the Yatra routes.
These measures reflect a comprehensive and modernized approach to managing the increasing footfall and ensuring the safety and comfort of pilgrims in the 2025 Chardham Yatra.
