Raipur: Life Transformed Through Beautiful Baskets Made of Chhind Kansa

Rinki Yadav Becomes a Role Model for Women in Her Village

Raipur : Rinki Yadav, a resident of Tatidand village under Kansabel development block in Jashpur district, has become a shining example of success. By turning the traditional craft of making beautiful baskets from Chhind Kansa (a type of local grass) into her livelihood, she has inspired many other women in her village to become self-reliant.

For the past six years, Rinki has been associated with the Rakhi Self-Help Group under the Chhattisgarh government’s flagship Bihan Yojana. In 2019, she transformed traditional basket weaving—once limited to household use—into a source of economic empowerment. After joining the group, she received the opportunity to commercialize her skills. Today, she earns nearly ₹1 lakh annually through group activities. Additionally, she earns ₹20,000–₹30,000 more independently by making Chhind Kansa baskets. This income significantly contributes to her family’s livelihood, her children’s education, and daily needs. Thanks to her hard work and determination, she is now constructing her dream home.

Rinki expressed her gratitude to the Government of Chhattisgarh and especially to Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai for her success. She shared that joining the self-help group introduced her to government schemes, training, and opportunities. This not only boosted her self-confidence but also increased her participation in social life. “After joining Bihan Yojana, the direction of my life changed,” she said. “I now feel self-reliant and see my dream of giving my children a better future coming true. These government schemes have given me both courage and respect.”
