Chhattisgarh State Child Rights Protection Commission has got new leadership. Dr. Varnika Sharma, a senior educationist and social concern, took charge as the Chairperson of the Commission today at the Commission’s office in the capital Raipur. On this occasion, Forest Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap, Women and Child Development Minister Smt. Laxmi Rajwade, MP Raipur Shri Brijmohan Agarwal, MLA Shri Kiran Dev, Shri Dharamlal Kaushik were also present. They congratulated Dr. Sharma by presenting a bouquet and sent best wishes for his tenure.

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai has congratulated and wished Dr. Varnika Sharma on assuming the charge of the post of Chairperson of the Commission. He said that under the leadership of Dr. Sharma, the Commission will work effectively towards child protection. He has done a lot of work for children, especially children of Naxal-affected families. The Commission will benefit from his experiences.
Minister Mrs. Laxmi Rajwade said that under the experience and leadership of Dr. Varnika Sharma, the Commission will work with new energy towards protecting the rights of children, ensuring welfare and justice. She said that the role of the Commission in the protection and rights of children is very important and it will be more effective under the leadership of the new Chairperson.
After taking charge, Dr. Sharma said that protection of children’s rights will be his top priority. He assured that the Commission will take prompt action on problems and complaints related to children with sensitivity and will emphasize on spreading awareness about child rights in the society.
It is worth noting that the Chhattisgarh State Child Rights Protection Commission was established on 16 June 2010 by the Chhattisgarh Government under the Child Rights Protection Commission Act, 2005 (Act No. 04 of 2006). The objective of the Commission is to protect the rights of children in the state, prevent violations and ensure action in related matters. The main functions of the Commission include inspection of policies and programs related to children, protection of distressed and deprived children, inspection of children’s homes and protection institutions, promotion of child rights in education and training. Along with this, the Commission has also been entrusted with the responsibility of implementing the provisions of the Right to Education Act 2009 and resolving complaints. At the same time, under the Juvenile Justice Act 2015 (amended 2021), the Commission also monitors the arrangements for the care and protection of children.
