Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah Reviews Implementation of New Criminal Laws with Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai
Raipur : Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah held a review meeting today in New Delhi with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai to assess the implementation of the three new criminal laws in the state. The meeting evaluated the execution and current status of various new provisions related to police, prisons, courts, prosecution, and forensics. Senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Government of Chhattisgarh, including the Deputy Chief Minister, Union Home Secretary, Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh, Director General of BPR&D, DGP of Chhattisgarh, and the Director of NCRB, were present.
In his address, Amit Shah emphasized that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the three new criminal laws must be implemented in Chhattisgarh as a top-priority agenda. He stated that the objective of these new laws is to significantly enhance the Indian judicial process, and their implementation is especially crucial in states like Chhattisgarh. He urged the state to take this as a challenge and work swiftly to become a model state for the effective execution of these reforms.
Shah stressed the importance of accountability, urging the Chhattisgarh government to hold Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)-level officers accountable for filing charge sheets within 60 to 90 days. He pointed out that under the new laws, video conferencing can be utilized throughout the process—from evidence recording to the entire trial—which will lead to significant manpower savings.
The Union Home Minister also advised that every police station and DSP-level officer in Chhattisgarh should regularly use NATGRID in serious criminal cases. He recommended a structured monitoring system:
- The Chief Secretary and DGP should review progress weekly.
- The State Home Minister should do so every 15 days.
- The Chief Minister should conduct a monthly review of the implementation of the new criminal laws.
Shah concluded by urging the state to adopt these changes earnestly and ensure that Chhattisgarh becomes a leading example in the country for the successful enforcement of criminal justice reforms.
