DCM Shinde Assists Family of Brave Kashmiri Youth Who Lost His Life Saving Tourists ₹5 Lakh Relief Handed Over; Shinde Consoles Family via Video Conferencing
Mumbai – In a tragic incident at Pahalgam in Jammu & Kashmir, 20-year-old local youth Syed Adil Hussain Shah lost his life in a terrorist attack while bravely attempting to save tourists. Despite the threat to his own life, Syed rushed to protect the tourists under attack and tried to snatch a rifle from one of the terrorists before being fatally shot. Recognizing his exceptional bravery and humanity, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde personally extended financial assistance of ₹5 lakh to Syed’s grieving family.
The aid was delivered today through Shiv Sena workers and representatives of the NGO Sarhad, who had reached Pahalgam to provide support. During this, Shinde connected with Syed’s family via video conferencing, offering his heartfelt condolences and assuring continued support.
Syed Adil worked as a pony handler, helping tourists explore the scenic area on horseback. On the day of the attack, he was escorting a tourist when the terrorists struck. Showing immense courage, Syed attempted to protect the tourist and even tried to grab a rifle from an assailant. Sadly, he was shot and killed during the scuffle.
Following the attack, many tourists from Maharashtra found themselves stranded in Jammu and Kashmir. On April 23, Deputy CM Shinde flew to Srinagar late at night to check on the well-being of the tourists. He visited a camp near the airport, personally met the affected travelers, and offered reassurance. Survivors shared stories of Syed Adil’s heroism and compassion, which moved Shinde to immediately arrange for financial help for the family.
Today, the cheque was formally handed over to Syed Adil’s family in the presence of local MLA Saeed Rafiq Shah. During the video call, Syed’s brother recounted the harrowing events of the attack — how Adil fought to protect the tourists and how he was shot by the terrorists while trying to disarm them.
Deputy CM Shinde described Syed Adil’s sacrifice as an extraordinary act of humanity and bravery, assuring the family that his martyrdom would not be in vain. He also pledged support to rebuild the family’s damaged home, standing in solidarity with the grieving Shah family.
