Anita Anand, Maninder Sidhu Join Key Roles in New Canadian Cabinet

Indo-Canadians Anita Anand and Maninder Sidhu have been appointed to key positions in Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s newly announced cabinet. Anand has taken over as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, replacing Mélanie Joly, who now heads the Ministry of Industry. Previously, Anand served as Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, and has held several high-profile roles including Minister of National Defence, Minister of Public Services and Procurement, and President of the Treasury Board.

Maninder Sidhu, a 41-year-old entrepreneur and Member of Parliament from Brampton East since 2019, has been appointed Minister of International Trade. Sidhu has served as Parliamentary Secretary at Global Affairs Canada for over four years and brings significant experience to his new role.

The new cabinet under Prime Minister Carney includes 28 ministers and 10 secretaries of state, tasked with delivering focused leadership on Canada’s top priorities. Among the junior ministers is Randeep Sarai, who has been named Secretary of State for International Development.

Prime Minister Carney praised the new team for its competence and readiness to strengthen both Canada’s economy and its relationship with key partners like the United States.
