Complete the Integrated Solid Waste Project by November – CM Devendra Fadnavis Directs

CM inspects Bhandewadi Solid Waste Processing Plant

Nagpur – Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed that the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Integrated Solid Waste Processing Project at Bhandewadi be completed by November. The Chief Minister conducted an on-site inspection of the project on Saturday (May 17).

During the visit, he was accompanied by MLA Krishna Khopde, MLA Praveen Datke, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary, Additional Commissioner Smt. Vasumana Pant, Superintending Engineer Dr. Shweta Banerjee, Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Bhagat, Executive Engineer Rajesh Dufare, Solid Waste Management Head Dr. Gajendra Mahalle, Assistant Commissioner Sonam Deshmukh, SUSBDe’s Smt. Vrinda Thakur, Project Director Sanjay Gadre, Financial Director Vinod Tandon, Nagpur Project Head Nitin Patwardhan, Consultant Rajendra Jagtap, and former corporators Balya Borkar and Deepak Wadibhasme. The Municipal Commissioner welcomed the CM and briefed him on the project. The facility is being constructed over 30 acres of land.

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s solid waste processing center at Bhandewadi is being developed with a capacity of 1,000 metric tonnes per day under the Design, Finance, Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (DFBOOT) model.

The project is a collaboration between Sustainable Business Development (SusBDe), a company based in the Netherlands, and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation. SusBDe is constructing the facility entirely at its own expense without charging any tipping fee to the civic body.

The plant will process waste into by-products such as biogas, organic compost, and RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel). SusBDe has been granted the rights to sell these by-products. This is an ambitious and pioneering project for Nagpur, and it is India’s only plant based on Dry Fermentation Technology.

In addition to the 30-acre construction site, another 9 acres have been allotted for fresh waste processing, where a pilot project is currently in operation. Chief Minister Fadnavis also inspected this pilot facility during his visit.
