Lalbagh Historical Site Beautification and Tourism Promotion to Be Completed in 24 Months: CM Dr. Yadav
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav visited the historic Lalbagh Palace in Indore on Tuesday and paid floral tributes to the statue of Subeidar Malharrao Holkar, the founder of the Holkar dynasty. He performed the Bhoomi-Pujan for the restoration and redevelopment of the Lalbagh Palace and its gardens, a project worth ₹47.59 crore. Dr. Yadav also toured the Lalbagh Palace, where he inspected the historical structure and its aesthetic appeal.
The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of conservation efforts for this historical heritage site. He gathered information about the special features of the palace, including the meeting room, crown hall, banquet hall, durbar hall, kings’ office, consultation room, western meeting room, Indian dining rooms for both men and women, and the ballroom. Architect Mr. Puneet Sohal gave a presentation on the Lalbagh Palace project. He briefed Dr. Yadav about the completed work and the future plans for the restoration and redevelopment.
Dr. Yadav expressed his wishes for the successful completion of this ambitious project, emphasizing that it represents a new beginning for Lalbagh’s rich history and its renewed prestige. The work will focus on preserving the garden and Holkar’s heritage, reviving the garden as a place for social and cultural activities, and redeveloping it based on the historical concept. The project has received ₹47.59 crore funding under the Singhsth Fund, and the Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation will execute it. The timeline for completion is 24 months, i.e., by May 2027.
The project will include the construction of a boundary wall, pathways, parking, softscaping and irrigation, public facilities, ticket counters, garden café, open-air stage, pavilion, Rani Ahilyabai Self-Defense Center (for girls), botanical defense center, external electrification, decorative light poles, pipe music system for the gardens, CCTV, and more.
At this important event, Cabinet members and other public representatives were present and supported the significance of the project and the government’s commitment to its development.
