Lalu Prasad Yadav Expels Son Tej Pratap from RJD and Family Over ‘Irresponsible Behaviour’

Patna, May 25: In a major political and personal development, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav has expelled his elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav, from both the party and the family for six years. The decision, which stunned Bihar’s political circles, was announced by Lalu himself on social media platform X, citing “immoral and irresponsible behaviour” as the reason.

Lalu Prasad wrote, “Ignoring moral values in personal life weakens our collective fight for social justice. The activities, public conduct, and behaviour of my eldest son are not in line with our family values. Therefore, I am removing him from the party and the family. He will no longer hold any role in either.”

He further clarified that people are free to decide whether they wish to maintain ties with Tej Pratap, but any association would be at their own discretion. “He is mature enough to understand the consequences of his actions. It is up to individuals to choose whether to stay connected with him or not,” he added.

The expulsion follows the viral circulation of images and videos of Tej Pratap with a woman named Anushka Yadav. One of the viral pictures showed her performing Karva Chauth rituals for Tej Pratap. The couple had reportedly been in a relationship for over 12 years, which recently came into public view.

Sources close to the Yadav family said Lalu was deeply upset, especially since the revelations came without any prior consultation or discussion within the family. The timing and nature of the public disclosure were reportedly seen as embarrassing for both the family and the party.

Tejashwi Yadav, Leader of the Opposition in Bihar and Tej Pratap’s younger brother, also responded to the development. In a press statement, he said, “There is a clear distinction between personal life and public life. While my elder brother has the right to make decisions in his personal life, we were not informed beforehand. We came to know through media reports.”

He added that as public representatives, family members must uphold dignity and responsibility. “We cannot support actions that harm our public image or credibility. The party stands by Lalu Ji’s decision.”

Tej Pratap Yadav, currently the MLA from Hassanpur and a former Environment and Forest Minister, has often drawn media attention due to controversial remarks and unpredictable public appearances. His turbulent personal life, including his rocky relationship with former wife Aishwarya Rai and strained family ties, has long been a subject of public speculation.

This expulsion is one of the most dramatic moves within the Yadav family and the RJD in recent times, highlighting growing internal tensions and a firm stand by Lalu Prasad Yadav on issues of discipline and public conduct. Whether Tej Pratap chooses to respond or chart his own political course remains to be seen.
