Villagers of Karihaphar got relief from drinking water crisis through Jaljeevan Mission.
Raipur : Under the Jal Jeevan Mission Yojana, the dream of providing water to every household is being realised in remote and inaccessible areas. This scheme is also resolving the drinking water crisis of the villagers by providing pure drinking water to every household in the remote areas of the district. Women are getting a lot of relief from this scheme. Earlier, many rural women had to travel several kilometres for pure drinking water, due to which they faced problems in commuting and also required more physical labour. Participation of villagers has been ensured in Jal Jeevan Mission, in which the role of women is important.
Kariyapahar village, a dependent village of Gram Panchayat Biranpur under Narharpur development block, located at a distance of about 30 km from the district headquarters Kanker, is also a village where pure drinking water is reaching every house under Jaljeevan Mission. The total population of 149 families in Kariyapahar village is 767, of which 369 are women and 398 are men. Due to 3 percent of the total land area of this village being rough and rocky, water is found here in less quantity than normal. Also, water is not available in sufficient quantity in all seasons. Other sources are used for disposal here, which include ponds and wells. Iron was found to be high in the minerals available in the water here. In different seasons, the people here had to face various problems related to water. In many localities, due to the drying up of hand pumps during summer, many problems were faced for drinking and disposal. The government has constructed toilets in the houses of many people, but due to lack of water, the villagers did not use the toilets. The problem of drinking water always persisted in schools and Anganwadis as well, but now with the 100% implementation of the scheme under Jal Jeevan Mission, the villagers of Kariyapahar have got rid of water problems.
