CM Stalin Awards ₹50,000 and Certificates to 9 Sri Lankan Tamil Students for Top Scores
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, at the State Secretariat, honored nine Sri Lankan Tamil students residing in refugee camps who secured top marks in Classes 10, 11, and 12 board exams. Each student received ₹50,000 and a certificate of appreciation from the Chief Minister.
This initiative stems from the Chief Minister’s 2021–22 Assembly announcement assuring dignity and secure livelihoods for Sri Lankan Tamils. The term “Sri Lankan Tamil Refugee Camp” was officially changed to “Sri Lankan Tamil Rehabilitation Camp.” He also declared the construction of 10,469 new homes for camp residents—3,000 homes have already been handed over, while 7,469 are under construction.
Furthermore, welfare schemes like the “Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai” (women’s monthly aid) have benefited 14,316 camp residents. Educational initiatives such as “Illam Thedi Kalvi,” “Maanmudhalvan,” and “Puthumai Penn” have also been extended to students in camps.
The monthly financial aid has also been increased: ₹1,500 for households, ₹1,000 for adult members, and ₹500 for children, along with free rice, clothing, subsidized gas cylinders (once every two years), and other essential items. These schemes benefit 19,666 families.
Since assuming office, the DMK government has issued 7,065 gas connections and provided skill development training to 2,404 individuals. Scholarships totaling over ₹1.37 crore have been awarded to 1,826 students pursuing higher education in arts, science, and technical fields.
In the 2024–25 academic year, 937 students from Class 10, 827 from Class 11, and 722 from Class 12 appeared for the exams from the rehabilitation camps. Many have passed with high marks.
At the event, Ministers Udhayanidhi Stalin and Gingee K.S. Masthan, Secretary N. Muruganandam IAS, and senior officials including Rita Harish Baker IAS and M. Elilar IAS, were present.
