Udhayanidhi Stalin Inaugurates Tamil Nadu Fish Food Festival 2025 at Chennai Island Grounds
Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Thiru. Udhayanidhi Stalin today inaugurated the “Tamil Nadu Fish Food Festival 2025” organized by the Department of Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare at Island Grounds, Chennai.
Deputy Chief Minister Thiru. Udhayanidhi Stalin inaugurated the Tamil Nadu Fish Food Festival 2025, which is being held for three days from 30.05.2025 to 01.06.2025 at Island Grounds, Chennai, under the aegis of the Department of Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare.
The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu is continuously implementing development projects aimed at improving the livelihoods of fishermen. These include the establishment of a new fish landing centre in Tiruvottiyur, modernization of the Kasimedu fish market, renovation of the Chindathiripet inland fish market, construction of new fish markets across Tamil Nadu, fish drying yards, additional boat jetties, boat repair facilities, anti-erosion sea walls, and angling platforms.
As part of these efforts, the Tamil Nadu Fish Food Festival 2025 has been organized at Chennai’s Island Grounds to create awareness among the public about fish consumption and its benefits.
The festival features:
- A cold storage pavilion spanning 1,00,000 square feet
- 50 stalls under the Chennai Marine Fish Food Exhibition Pavilion
- 15 stalls dedicated to inland fisheries and ornamental fish displays
- 20 fish food stalls
- A live cooking demonstration area
Various cultural events will also be held during the festival. In addition, special cooking competitions for women and fisherwomen will be conducted.
The festival aims to raise awareness about the nutritional and health benefits of consuming marine fish, especially oily fish. Marine fish are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, iodine, essential minerals, and vitamins such as A, D, and K. The exhibition is designed to educate the public on these health benefits.
