Mizoram: Damage Caused By Heavy Rainfall In Various Locations Being Monitored From The State Emergency Operation Centre – DM&R Minister
Aizawl : Following the continuous heavy rainfall that began on 24th May 2025, several places across Mizoram have experienced damage. In response, the Disaster Management & Rehabilitation (DM&R) Department has been actively monitoring the situation and extending support as needed.

Earlier today, Prof. Lalnilawma, Minister for Disaster Management & Rehabilitation, visited the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) at the Directorate of DM&R, Chawnpui, Aizawl, to review the situation in affected areas. Discussions were held on how best to provide assistance. Also present were Ms. K. Lalrinzuali, Secretary (DM&R), Ms. Zarzokimi, Joint Secretary, Mr. R. Vanrengpuia, Director, and other department staff. Teams have also conducted field visits to affected areas.
Minister Lalnilawma expressed deep concern over the widespread damage and stated that the government, through the DM&R Department, is committed to providing timely support. He assured that the government is prepared to assist families affected by the disasters, and announced that an Ex-Gratia payment of ₹4 lakh will be given to the families of those who lost their lives due to calamities caused by natural elements like landslides, floods, and water-related hazards.
The Minister highlighted the community spirit and voluntary assistance shown by individuals and local organizations. He urged the public to prioritize safety while also reaching out to help those in distress, saying that such compassion and solidarity define the Mizo identity. He called upon all DM&R personnel to remain vigilant and responsive in their duties.
In addition to DM&R officials, members of the Aizawl District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) also visited several affected locations within Aizawl district. Local leaders and volunteers were found actively involved in relief efforts. Due to heavy rainfall, several PHE (Public Health Engineering) pump houses have been submerged. The Minister noted that this could impact water supply and emphasized the need for repair and restoration of the water distribution system and water sources.
