All-Party Delegation Meets UK’s Priti Patel, Highlights India’s Fight Against Terrorism and Operation Sindoor
London – A high-level Indian all-party parliamentary delegation, led by senior BJP leader and MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, met with UK Shadow Foreign Secretary Priti Patel and her team in London on Sunday. The meeting aimed to strengthen international cooperation in the fight against terrorism and highlight India’s proactive approach to dealing with cross-border threats, especially through the recent military campaign—Operation Sindoor.
The Indian High Commission in the UK posted on X (formerly Twitter), “The all-party parliamentary delegation met Shadow Foreign Secretary @pritipatel and her team and shared India’s resolve in combating cross-border terrorism. They also highlighted how #OperationSindoor exemplifies the new normal established by India in this ongoing effort.”
The delegation includes a wide range of leaders from multiple political parties, reflecting India’s bipartisan unity on matters of national security. Apart from Ravi Shankar Prasad, the group features BJP MPs Daggubati Purandeswari and Samik Bhattacharya; Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi; Congress MPs Gulam Ali Khatana and Amar Singh; former Union Minister M.J. Akbar; and former Ambassador Pankaj Saran.
Engaging the Diaspora
Prior to the meeting with Patel, the delegation interacted with members of the Indian diaspora at India House in London. The MPs emphasized India’s united stance against terrorism and reassured the expatriate community of the country’s readiness to decisively confront any terrorist threat.
“The all-party delegation of MPs today interacted with representatives of the vast and diverse Indian diaspora at India House in London. They reaffirmed India’s united stand and unwavering commitment to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” the High Commission said in its post.
Ravi Shankar Prasad Slams Pakistan’s Military Establishment
Addressing the diaspora, Ravi Shankar Prasad launched a scathing critique of Pakistan’s military-dominated political structure. He stated that Pakistan is not a true democracy and has historically been controlled by unelected generals. Drawing comparisons to past military rulers like Ayub Khan, Yahya Khan, Zia-ul-Haq, and Pervez Musharraf, Prasad claimed that the current military leadership, including General Asim Munir, continues this undemocratic legacy.
“Pakistan’s problem is that it’s not a democratic country. It has become a shop run by generals since its inception. The Pakistani armed forces created a country for themselves—unelected, unaccountable, and lacking popular support,” Prasad said. He referred to General Munir’s promotion to Field Marshal despite his alleged battlefield failures, calling it symbolic of the deeper institutional rot.
Operation Sindoor: A Turning Point
Highlighting India’s decisive military response to recent terror attacks, Prasad provided details about Operation Sindoor, launched in the wake of the deadly April 22 terror strike in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which left 26 civilians dead. On May 7, in response, Indian armed forces carried out a targeted operation against terrorist camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The operation eliminated over 100 terrorists affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
Prasad noted, “This operation took place at around 1:30 am and lasted only 20 minutes. It was highly precise—no civilian casualties occurred. Later that morning, we informed the Pakistani establishment: you were hit during the night, but only the terrorist camps were targeted. No civilians were harmed.”
He praised the Indian Air Force and armed forces for intercepting and neutralizing Pakistan’s retaliatory missile strikes. “They launched missiles at our skies and cities. But thanks to our armed forces, every one of those missiles was neutralized. It was a clean, clinical military response,” he said.
Calling Out Pakistan’s Terror Links
Prasad also reminded the audience of Pakistan’s role in sheltering global terrorists, including 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden. He stated that those involved in hijacking the Indian Airlines flight to secure the release of Masood Azhar have since been eliminated by Indian forces. He also claimed that family members of Azhar have been killed as part of India’s ongoing crackdown on terrorism.
Strengthening Global Alliances
As part of India’s larger diplomatic effort to garner international support against terrorism, the delegation’s visit to the UK follows earlier stops in Russia, Greece, Latvia, Slovenia, and Spain. These visits are part of India’s campaign to inform global stakeholders about Operation Sindoor and the country’s commitment to combating Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.
The meeting with Priti Patel signals a growing alignment between India and its international allies on issues of security and counterterrorism. By engaging both governments and diaspora communities, India seeks to build a global consensus against terrorism while reaffirming its commitment to peace, democracy, and rule of law.
