Last Selfie, Lost Dreams: Udaipur Doctor Family Perishes on Flight to a New Life

Ahmedabad, Gujarat — Among the 241 lives lost in the tragic Air India plane crash on Thursday was a hopeful family from Udaipur, whose dreams were set on starting a new chapter in London. Dr. Pratik Joshi, originally from Banswara, Rajasthan, was traveling with his wife, Dr. Komi Vyas, and their three young children—two boys and a girl—when the flight from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick ended in disaster just moments after takeoff.

A haunting image of the family smiling together aboard the plane, moments before takeoff, has gone viral—an unintentional final selfie that now symbolizes heartbreak, hope, and irreparable loss.

Dr. Joshi had moved to London a few years ago to advance his medical career. After years of hard work and perseverance, he finally managed to make arrangements to bring his wife and children to join him. He had recently returned to India to accompany them back to their new home, having already secured a house, enrolled the children in school, and packed everything they would need to begin their life together.

Dr. Komi Vyas, who worked at Udaipur Medical College, had resigned from her position, eager to reunite with her husband and begin a new professional journey overseas. Just two days before the flight, she met her friends and spoke with joy and excitement about the future that awaited them in London.

But fate had other plans. Their journey of hope ended in a fiery crash that stunned the nation and silenced a family whose only wish was to be together in a land of new beginnings.
