Chilkapalli Transformed Through Jal Jeevan Mission

Clean Tap Water Reaches Every Household

Raipur : The once water-scarce village of Chilkapalli in Bijapur district has now emerged as a model village, thanks to the Jal Jeevan Mission. Located under Futkel Gram Panchayat, this small village now enjoys clean drinking water through tap connections in all 132 households.

Earlier, the residents relied solely on hand pumps to meet their daily water needs, which would often run dry during the scorching summer months. Women and children had to walk long distances in search of water. However, the Chhattisgarh Government’s Niyad Nellanar Scheme, in convergence with Jal Jeevan Mission, has completely transformed the village’s situation.

Under this mission, an extensive pipeline of 7,138 meters was laid in Chilkapalli at a cost of ₹37.89 lakh. Additionally, five solar-powered water supply systems were installed, ensuring the delivery of safe drinking water directly to each household.

Village Panchayat member Nuppo Deva shared, “Earlier, women and children spent hours collecting water from far-off sources. Now, with water available at home, not only is time saved, but the quality of life has also improved.” Resident Nuppo Pojji added, “Life was tough before, but now, with water in our homes, it’s become much easier.”

On 23 June 2025, during a Gram Sabha, Chilkapalli received its official ‘Har Ghar Jal’ certification. The event was attended by Sarpanch Manish Kumar Musakki, Panch members Lekam Gujja and Madkam Hemant, officials from the Public Health Engineering Department, local workers, and all villagers.

Today, the responsibility of operating, maintaining, and monitoring the water supply system built under the mission has been handed over to the villagers themselves. They are now actively promoting water conservation and awareness, understanding its critical importance.

Thanks to the Jal Jeevan Mission, not only has Chilkapalli’s drinking water crisis been resolved, but the initiative has also laid a strong foundation for better health, time-saving, women’s empowerment, and holistic community development.

Chilkapalli stands as a powerful example of how proper implementation of a scheme can transform both the image and fate of a village. The Jal Jeevan Mission is indeed a significant step toward a brighter future for rural India, and Chilkapalli is its shining testimony.
