For a Well-Planned and Developed City, Planning for the Next 50 Years is Essential: CM Devendra Fadnavis
CM Inaugurates and Lays Foundation Stones for Multiple Projects of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation
Pune : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has emphasized the need for comprehensive and futuristic planning to ensure Pimpri Chinchwad’s development is systematic and sustainable. “As Pimpri Chinchwad continues to grow, we must create a robust master plan and plan ahead for the next 50 years with the future generations in mind,” he said. He also directed officials to cancel the Charkholi Town Planning Scheme, following public demand and in consultation with local representatives.
The Chief Minister was speaking at the inauguration and foundation stone-laying ceremony of several development projects under the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), including the unveiling of the memorial sculpture depicting the historic meeting of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Namdev Maharaj at Vadmukhwadi on the Pune–Alandi Palkhi route. He also inaugurated the auditorium and art gallery at the Santpeeth and other civic development projects.
Present at the event were MP Srirang Barne, MLAs Uma Khapre, Amit Gorkhe, Srikant Bharatiya, Mahesh Landge, Shankar Jagtap, former MLA Ashwini Jagtap, Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, PCMC Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh, District Collector, renowned literary figure and saint literature scholar Dr. Sadanand More, and others.
Honoring the Legacy of Saints
CM Fadnavis highlighted the contribution of Sant Dnyaneshwar in laying the foundation of the Warkari tradition and how Sant Tukaram elevated it further. “Dnyaneshwar Maharaj conveyed profound spiritual knowledge through simple words, making Bhagwat Dharma accessible to all. That’s why millions follow the Palkhi tradition even today,” he said. He noted that Sant Namdev Maharaj, through his Abhangs, carried the essence of Bhagwat Dharma as far as Punjab, with his teachings included in the Sikh scripture, the Guru Granth Sahib. “The PCMC’s sculpture captures the divinity and unity of these two great saints,” he added.
A Global Vision with Cultural Roots
“Our philosophical heritage offers guidance to the world and has been passed down through generations,” the Chief Minister said. “As long as the Wari (pilgrimage) continues, this vision lives on.” He commended PCMC for establishing a modern Santpeeth that merges CBSE curriculum with saint literature and traditional wisdom. He assured full state support for any expansion plans of the Santpeeth.
Clean Rivers and Smart Infrastructure
CM Fadnavis also reiterated the government’s commitment to cleaning the Indrayani River by ensuring 100% treatment of wastewater before it enters the river. Two sewage treatment plants under the AMRUT scheme are being constructed for this purpose, and the required funds are being allocated.
He appreciated civic projects aimed at citizen welfare, including a new climbing wall to promote sports among youth. “This facility will help nurture a new generation of athletes,” he said.
Policing with Humanity
Commending the police force, Fadnavis said, “True service lies in humanity.” He praised the Police Commissionerate’s initiatives, especially the Jyeshthanubandh mobile app, which supports senior citizens during emergencies. He also mentioned the Intelligent Traffic Management System being implemented in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad using AI to address increasing population pressures.
