White House Says Iran Nuclear Deal Approval May Take Days Amid Ongoing Negotiations

Washington, May 2026 : The White House believes that it may take several days for Iran’s leadership to formally approve a potential nuclear agreement currently being negotiated with the United States, according to a report by US media.

Citing a senior US official, Axios reported that while Washington remains optimistic about finalising a deal within days, the agreement is not yet complete and could still collapse if negotiations fail to reach consensus. The report added that it remains uncertain whether the evolving framework would ultimately result in a durable peace agreement or fully address long-standing US concerns over Iran’s nuclear programme.

The development comes amid heightened diplomatic activity between Washington and Tehran, with discussions focusing on nuclear restrictions, regional stability, and strategic security arrangements.

Earlier on Sunday, US President Donald Trump said he had instructed his negotiating team not to rush into any agreement with Iran, emphasizing that “time is on our side.” In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said both sides must proceed carefully to ensure the final outcome is correct and sustainable.

“Both sides must take their time and get it right,” Trump wrote, adding that existing US pressure measures against Iran would remain in place until a formal agreement is reached, certified, and signed. He stated that the blockade and sanctions regime targeting Iranian interests would continue without relaxation during the negotiation process.

Trump also strongly defended his administration’s approach to talks with Iran, criticizing the 2015 nuclear agreement brokered under former President Barack Obama. He described that deal as “one of the worst deals ever made by our Country,” arguing that it created a direct pathway for Iran to develop nuclear weapons capability.

By contrast, Trump asserted that the current negotiations under his administration are aimed at achieving the opposite outcome and preventing Tehran from acquiring a nuclear weapon under any circumstances.

The US President also indicated that broader regional diplomacy is underway, stating that a wider understanding involving Iran and several Middle Eastern nations is close to being finalised. He referred to recent discussions with leaders from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and Bahrain as part of a larger effort to stabilise the region.

According to Trump, the ongoing diplomatic push reflects growing international coordination, although he acknowledged that a final agreement has not yet been reached and that negotiations are still ongoing.
