Iran Slams US Airstrikes on Nuclear Sites, Calls for Urgent UN Action
Tehran labels attack a “great crime,” accuses Washington and Israel of violating international law and UN Charter
Iran has issued a scathing condemnation of the United States following recent coordinated airstrikes on three of its nuclear facilities—Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan—calling the attacks a “brutal military aggression” and a blatant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.
In an official statement, Iran’s Foreign Ministry declared, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the brutal US military aggression against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities. This act constitutes a gross and unprecedented violation of the most fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law.” The ministry added that the United States must be held responsible for the dangerous consequences of this ‘great crime’.
Iran claimed the strikes were carried out in criminal cooperation with Israel, which Tehran referred to as the “genocidal Zionist regime.” It alleged that the attacks occurred on the tenth day of Israeli military operations against Iran, reflecting what it sees as full US complicity in an orchestrated escalation. The Iranian government stated the bombings directly violated Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the UN Charter, as well as UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which supports the 2015 nuclear agreement (JCPOA).
Iran also emphasized that all three targeted sites were under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and strictly served peaceful purposes.
Tehran asserted its right to retaliate, saying, “The Islamic Republic of Iran recognizes its right to firmly oppose the US military aggression and defend the nation’s sovereignty and national interests.”
Calling for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, Iran demanded that the IAEA Board of Governors urgently investigate the matter. The Foreign Ministry criticized the IAEA’s Director-General, accusing him of “clear bias” and claimed his actions created the “pretext” for this assault.
“It is now evident that a country which is a permanent member of the Security Council refuses to abide by any rules, ethics, or international obligations,” the Iranian statement concluded, implying that US actions have further eroded global trust in international law and multilateral institutions.
