In Just Four Years, MGUG Achieves Remarkable Milestones

President Droupadi Murmu to Inaugurate Academic Complex, Auditorium, Panchakarma Centre, and Lay Foundation for Girls’ Hostel on July 1

Gorakhpur : Within just four years of its establishment, the Mahayogi Gorakhnath University, Gorakhpur (MGUG) has achieved an impressive list of accomplishments. Recognized across Uttar Pradesh for its employment-oriented, contemporary, and holistic blend of modern and traditional medical education, the university is set to welcome President Droupadi Murmu on July 1, who will inaugurate its new academic block, a 1,500-seat auditorium, an international-level Panchakarma centre with eleven cottages, and lay the foundation stone for a 1,000-capacity girls’ hostel.

The university was inaugurated earlier on August 28, 2021, by the then President Ram Nath Kovind. The Chancellor of MGUG is Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and head of the Goraksha Peeth.

MGUG is rapidly emerging as a national center for modern medical education, Ayurveda, nursing, pharmacy, and job-oriented undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The BAMS (Ayurveda) course started in the very first session of the university’s inception, while the MBBS course commenced last academic year. Alongside, over a dozen fully operational nursing and paramedical programs are offered. The university currently runs nearly two dozen diploma to master’s degree programs across disciplines such as allied health sciences, pharmacy, agriculture, and business management.

According to Vice Chancellor Dr. Surinder Singh, every program at the university is employment-oriented and in high demand. Emphasizing the preservation and advancement of Indian knowledge systems, he stated that all research activities are aligned with contemporary and future needs. MGUG’s curricula reflect the spirit of the National Education Policy (NEP) — designed to be socially beneficial and job-assured for students.

MGUG has entered MoUs with various leading institutions to promote research, innovation, startups, agriculture, medicine, education, and rural development. These include partnerships with:

  • International Rice Research Institute (IRRI)
  • Lumbini Buddhist University (Nepal)
  • Central University of South Bihar
  • Indira Gandhi National Tribal University
  • AIIMS Gorakhpur
  • KGMU Lucknow
  • RMRC Gorakhpur

  • National Botanical Research Institute
  • National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Microorganisms
  • Indian Institute of Seed Science
  • Jubilant Agriculture & Rural Development Society
  • Logistics Sector Skill Council, among others.

These collaborations aim to foster world-class research, facilitate innovative startups, and enhance entrepreneurial opportunities.

According to Registrar Dr. Pradeep Kumar Rao, MGUG is deeply rooted in the vision of the late Mahant Digvijaynath ji and Rashtrasant Mahant Avaidyanath ji, who believed that education is the most powerful tool for liberation, self-reliance, and social progress. The current Chancellor and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath continues this visionary legacy. Under his guidance, MGUG aspires to impart value-based, employment-focused education, inspired by India’s intellectual heritage, and committed to societal and national development.

Yogi Adityanath envisions transforming Gorakhpur into a ‘Knowledge City’ by 2032, and MGUG is on the path to playing a pivotal role in realizing that goal.
