582 electric buses to be operated on urban routes of state

Madhya Pradesh Electric Vehicle Policy 2025 has been prepared to promote operation of electric vehicles in the state. To encourage electric vehicles, provisions have also been made by the state government to provide exemption in transport tax and subsidies. Electric bus service under public transport is also being promoted in major cities of the state. At present, 80 electric buses are being operated on urban routes in Indore. 40 buses are being operated under FAME scheme, while another 40 buses under AMRUT scheme 1.0.

Proposal to operate 582 electric buses

Under the E-Bus Service Scheme, a proposal was prepared and sent for operating 582 electric buses in 6 cities, which has been approved by the Central Urban Ministry, New Delhi. The proposal is to operate 150 electric buses in Indore, 100 in Bhopal, 100 in Gwalior, 100 in Jabalpur, 32 in Sagar, and 100 in Ujjain. For bus operation in 6 cities of the state, the Urban Development and Housing Department has issued tenders and selected bus operators. A proposal has also been prepared for bus depot infrastructure construction under the PM E-Bus Service, in which 60 percent of the amount will be provided by the Central Government and the remaining 40 percent by the State Government. For the construction of charging infrastructure for electric buses, the Central Government will provide 100 percent of the amount. Estimates for the construction of bus depots and charging stations have been prepared by urban bodies and approved by the State Level Steering Committee. After approval, the proposal has been sent to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India. Bhopal and Jabalpur cities have already issued tenders for the construction of bus depot infrastructure.

To promote the operation of light electric vehicles in the cities of the state, 190 charging points have been installed at 34 charging stations in Bhopal, Indore, and Jabalpur.
