Indian-American Sabih Khan Named Apple’s New Chief Operating Officer

Veteran executive with 30 years at Apple succeeds Jeff Williams, praised for global supply chain leadership and sustainability efforts

Apple Inc. has announced the appointment of Indian-American executive Sabih Khan as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO), marking a significant leadership transition at one of the world’s most influential tech companies. Khan, a longtime Apple veteran with nearly three decades of service, will formally assume the role later this month, succeeding Jeff Williams, who plans to retire by the end of the year.

Currently serving as Apple’s Senior Vice President of Operations, Khan has played a pivotal role in developing and managing Apple’s vast global supply chain. He was instrumental in ensuring that the company remained agile and responsive to worldwide challenges, especially during times of crisis. Apple CEO Tim Cook praised Khan’s leadership, describing him as a “brilliant strategist” who “leads with heart and values,” and said he is confident Khan will be an exceptional COO.

Born in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh in 1966, Khan moved to Singapore at age 10. He later pursued higher education in the United States, earning a bachelor’s degree in economics and mechanical engineering from Tufts University, followed by a master’s in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Khan joined Apple in 1995 and rose steadily through the ranks. In 2019, he was appointed Senior Vice President of Operations, where he led efforts to promote green manufacturing practices and sustainable partnerships with suppliers — aligning Apple’s operations with its environmental goals.

As Jeff Williams transitions out of his role, he will continue overseeing Apple Watch and design divisions until his retirement. Khan’s elevation to COO signals continuity and innovation at the helm of Apple’s operational strategy.

Team Maverick.
