Complex Surgery at SIMS: Over 10 kg Tumor Successfully Removed from 65-Year-Old Woman’s Abdomen
Raipur : A 65-year-old woman named Lakshmi Chauhan, a resident of Kabirdham in Bilaspur district, had been suffering from abdominal swelling and increasing physical discomfort for the past two years. In the last 10 days, she began experiencing persistent vomiting and was unable to consume food or pass stool and urine. Her family rushed her to SIMS (Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences) where she was admitted to the Obstetrics and Gynecology department.
Dr. Neha Singh conducted a preliminary examination and, given the seriousness of the patient’s condition, admitted her immediately for blood, urine, and sonography tests. The sonography report confirmed the presence of a large tumor in her abdomen. Dr. Singh reported the findings to the department head, Dr. Sangeeta Raman Jogi.
Recognizing the urgency, Dr. Jogi consulted with Medical Superintendent Dr. Lakhan Singh and Dean Dr. Ramesh Murti, who approved an emergency life-saving surgery.
A specialist surgical team was constituted under the leadership of Dr. Sangeeta Raman Jogi. The team included Dr. Deepika Singh, Dr. Rachna Jain, Dr. Anju Garhwal, and from the Anesthesia Department, Dr. Madhumita Murti, Dr. Shweta, Dr. Prachi, and Dr. Akanksha, with nursing support by Brother Ashwini.
In a challenging procedure, the team successfully removed a tumor weighing 10.660 kilograms from the patient’s abdomen. The surgery was declared a complete success, and the patient’s condition is now significantly improved.
The SIMS administration expressed gratitude to the medical team for their dedication and swift action. This case highlights the advanced capabilities of SIMS doctors in performing complex surgeries and saving lives.
