Iron Scrap Smuggling Busted by SGST – 10 Trucks Seized in Major Crackdown

Department acting on tip-offs, investigation reveals large-scale tax evasion

Jaipur : In a major crackdown, the State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) Department has seized 10 trucks illegally transporting iron scrap without valid e-way bills. The operation was carried out by the State Enforcement Wing under the special directive of Mr. Kumar Pal Gautam, Principal Secretary (Revenue) and Chief Commissioner, Commercial Tax Department.

Multiple enforcement teams were formed to conduct simultaneous raids across various locations in the state. During this coordinated effort, the trucks loaded with iron scrap were intercepted. Preliminary investigation revealed that the scrap was intended for use in various steel manufacturing units. However, the transport was carried out without proper documentation and mandatory e-way bills, in clear violation of GST regulations.

Continuous Tip-offs Prompt Action
The SGST Department had been receiving consistent intelligence inputs about the illegal transportation of iron scrap and possible tax evasion. Acting on these inputs, the department planned and executed the special enforcement drive.

Ongoing Probe, More Revelations Expected
The Enforcement Wing is currently investigating the actual ownership of the goods and identifying the intended delivery destinations. Officials anticipate that the investigation may uncover additional cases of large-scale tax evasion.

Principal Secretary and Chief Commissioner Mr. Gautam has affirmed that strict action will be taken against those violating tax laws. He reiterated the department’s full commitment to curbing tax evasion and ensuring strict compliance with GST regulations across the state.
