Efforts of Water Conservation through Active Gram Panchayats and Voluntary Public Participation are Commendable: CM Vishnu Deo Sai
Raipur : Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai today released a booklet based on the mega campaign ‘Mor Gaon Mor Pani’ (My Village, My Water) from his chamber in the Assembly premises. On this occasion, he stated that the special campaign launched on the occasion of Panchayati Raj Day has sparked unprecedented awareness in the field of water conservation and augmentation. The release ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma, Principal Secretary Panchayat Smt. Niharika Barik, Commissioner MGNREGA and Director of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Shri Taran Prakash Sinha, along with several other officials.
CM Sai emphasized that due to the active involvement of gram panchayats and the voluntary participation of citizens, the campaign has evolved into a mass movement. People are willingly engaging in the noble cause of water conservation, indicating a clear sign of positive social change. He added that the booklet compiles notable water conservation efforts and innovations undertaken by various panchayats across the state, which will serve as inspiration for others.
The Chief Minister highlighted that under this campaign, special emphasis has been laid on increasing public awareness about water conservation through Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities. Groundwater levels have been marked on the walls of more than 11,000 gram panchayat buildings across the state, awakening practical awareness among the people regarding the importance of water. He noted that the role of gram panchayats in linking water conservation with public participation has been significant and this consciousness will expand further in the future.
It is noteworthy that under the ‘Mor Gaon Mor Pani’ campaign, large-scale public sensitization and awareness regarding water conservation have been carried out through rallies, wall writings, and other media. Through training held in 626 clusters, more than 56,000 participants have been prepared for water management and conservation.
The campaign is also utilizing GIS technology to effectively plan water conservation works, while the ‘Jaldoot’ mobile app is being used to measure water levels in open wells. Additionally, sustainable efforts for water recharge and conservation are being made through structural measures such as percolation tanks, earthen dams, and recharge structures for defunct borewells. These initiatives by gram panchayats will position Chhattisgarh as a national model in water conservation.
