Mizoram Governor Inaugurates Red Cross Society Activities at Govt. Aizawl North College
Aizawl : In a significant step towards promoting humanitarian values and community service, the Governor of Mizoram, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), who also serves as the President of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Mizoram State Branch, inaugurated the Red Cross Society Activities at Govt. Aizawl North College (GANC) in Ramhlun North, Aizawl, today. He presented the Institutional Membership Certificate, an oxygen concentrator and blankets to the College Principal, alongside awarding Life Membership Certificates to three individuals.
Addressing the gathering, Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh expressed his appreciation for the inauguration of the IRCS Mizoram State Branch activities at Govt. Aizawl North College. He commended Mizoram’s deep-rooted culture of community spirit and unity, stating, “The Mizo way of life embodies kindness, volunteerism, and selfless service, values that align seamlessly with the mission of the Red Cross.” He further added that, “Even in such a close-knit communities, there is immense value in having a structured, globally recognized hmunanitarian organization like the Indian Red Cross Society,”. He underscored that the Red Cross operates with a selfless spirit, driven by a commitment to serve humanity from the heart without partiality.
The Governor lauded the recent revitalization of the Red Cross Society in Mizoram and the ongoing establishment of Youth Red Cross Units in colleges, urging young people to take initiative, inspire others, and lead by example. He emphasized the importance of co-curricular activities in shaping well-rounded, responsible citizens and encouraged the youth, reiterating that they are the future torch bearers of the country. He specifically urged students to learn essential skills like first aid to respond effectively during emergencies. He further called for the establishment of Youth Red Cross Units in educational institutions across Mizoram and advocated for comprehensive training for members, envisioning Mizoram as a model state for the Red Cross in India.
The event featured a welcome address by Dr. Chawnglungmuana, Secretary of IRCS Mizoram State Branch, followed by a detailed report on the organization’s activities and initiatives by Assistant Secretary Pu Chinkhanmanga Thomte. Dr. Saroj Laldinpuii, Principal of GANC, also addressed the audience, while Pu Francis Lallawmkima, Treasurer of IRCS Mizoram State Branch, delivered a vote of thanks to conclude the formal proceedings.
Following the inauguration, a Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid Training session was organized for members of the Govt. Aizawl North College Youth Red Cross Unit, equipping them with vital skills to serve their community effectively.
