On this occasion, the Chief Minister addressed the farmers gathered at 577 Rythu Vedikas in the state through video conference. CM Revanth Reddy said that Rahul Gandhi announced Rs 2 lakh farm loan waiver scheme in the Farmers Declaration at the Warangal public meeting on May 6, 2022. Sonia Gandhi made Six promises which included the farm loan waiver on September 17, 2023. The Congress government fulfilled the promise of waiver of farm loans with the cooperation of the cabinet colleagues and officials, the CM said that the congress proved again it is committed to the word given by the leadership.

The CM reminded that Sonia Gandhi made the promise of the formation of Telangana in 2004 in the Karimnagar public meeting by recognizing the aspirations of the people for more than 60 years and she fulfilled the promise despite the Congress faced political hurdles in the united AP which continued more number of MP seats to the party in the country. The CM praised Sonia Gandhi as a leader who never turned back and announced statehood for Telangana.

The CM said that he along with Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka will go to Delhi to express their gratitude to Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and invite them to attend a thanksgiving public meeting in Warangal Arts College where the party made the promise of loan waiver. Rahul Gandhi will be invited to the public meeting and express our gratitude to him on behalf of the farmers of the state.

Previous BRS government waived not more than Rs 21, 000 crore farm loans
CM Revanth Reddy criticized former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for the latter’s failure in fulfilling the promise of waiver of farm loans. The CM fired a salve at KCR for waiving the farm loans not more than Rs 12,000 crore in installments as against the promise of Rs 16,000 crore in the BRS first term. After coming to power for the second consecutive time, KCR made the promise of waiver of Rs 12,000 crore and again cheated the farmers by waiving Rs 9000 crore loans only. The CM expressed anger over the waiver of not more than Rs 21,000 crore farm loans in the 10 year BRS rule. As a result, the farm community struggled with the mounting debt and interest burden and they are also forced to commit suicide.

The Chief Minister said that Rs.6,098 crores have been released to clear the farm loans up to Rs.1 lakh in the first installment. In the second installment, loans up to Rs 1.50 lakh will be waived and Rs 2 lakh loans will be waived in the third phase before August end. Rs 31,000 crore will be deposited in the farmers accounts and the loans will be waived. Even though his government took oath on December 7, the government took December 9, on the day the official process to the formation of Telangana started, as criteria to implement the farm loan waiver scheme. Since December 9 is also observed as the birthday of Sonia Gandhi, the CM said that the loans taken between December 12, 2018 and December 9, 2023 will be waived.

Opposition conspires to create misconceptions
CM Revanth Reddy said that some people are creating a misconception that Ration card is mandatory to avail farm loan waiver benefit. Ration card is only for the identity of the farmer’s family. Passbook is only considered to extend the benefit. The CM cautioned the farmers not to get carried away by false campaigns and appealed to the officials to educate the farmers on farm loan waiver.

The Chief Minister suggested to the officials to contact bank officials in case technical problems arise in the implementation of the scheme. The CM thanked the bank management for accepting the implementation of loan waiver scheme by addressing the challenges. The chief minister asked the officials of the agriculture department to ensure that the loan waiver money is deposited in the farmers accounts directly.

The Agriculture Minister himself is a farmer
CM Revanth Reddy praised Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao for being a good farmer and speaking about the farming issues occasionally. The Chief Minister recalled that Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka embarked on a padayatra from Adilabad to Khammam and learned about the farmers’ plights. At the time of formation of Telangana, the then government paid only Rs 6,500 crore as interest on loans per year. Today, the government is paying Rs 7,000 crore interest on loans every month. The previous government put Rs 7 lakh crore debt burden on the state.

Despite facing financial challenges, CM Revanth Reddy said that his government has been paying the salaries promptly to the government employees and already spent Rs 29,000 crore to implement Six Guarantees in just 8 months. Now, the state government has taken up the big task of waiving farm loans. The CM said that he will not insist on the opposition leaders who said they are ready to quit politics if the government implements the farm loan waiver scheme. The CM suggested to the opposition those who threw challenges should remember that Gandhi family stick to their word.
