LMC Chairman Pu Lalzuithanga Inaugurates Committee Room and Residential Building at Lunglei Press Club

Lunglei – The newly constructed committee room and residential building for the Mizoram Journalists’ Association (MJA), Lunglei District, located at the Lunglei Press Club, were officially inaugurated yesterday by Lunglei Municipal Council (LMC) Chairman Pu Lalzuithanga.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at the new conference hall, Chairman Pu Lalzuithanga expressed his appreciation for the hard work of journalists, highlighting that despite many challenges and limitations, they continue to serve the public without hesitation. He stated that the role of journalists, especially in today’s rapidly evolving digital media landscape, is not just to report news, but to guide others toward the truth. He also encouraged media personnel to carry out their responsibilities with integrity and a strong sense of public duty.

He further remarked that the LMC is working towards the planned development of Lunglei town, and while the current period may be difficult, it is a crucial time that should be utilized wisely. He noted that long delays under the NREGS scheme are holding back progress and leaving the public frustrated. The LMC, he said, is exploring options to support economically weaker sections and create development opportunities for the general public.

The MJA representatives expressed their gratitude to the LMC for its support, promising to continue working diligently and to maintain strong coordination in the future.

The event was presided over by District MJA President Pu H. Lalthansanga. In his remarks, District Information & Public Relations Officer Pu C. Lalhruaitluanga encouraged MJA members to continue their work with dedication and professionalism in print, electronic, and digital media. He emphasized the importance of adapting to modern trends in media, especially the digital domain, and called upon media personnel to become thought leaders and responsible influencers.

During the event, he also launched the new Lunglei Times blog page – lungleitimes.blogspot.com.

District MJA Secretary Pu Thanghmingliana Renthlei presented a report, and Treasurer Pu K. Lalrinpuia gave an overview of the construction of the conference hall, committee room, and residential building.

The construction work, which began on May 2 and concluded on July 8 (a duration of 68 days), was completed at an estimated cost of ₹2.5 lakh. The project was funded through the District MJA’s own contributions. In addition to the main rooms, internal furnishings, various utilities, and facilities were also developed as part of the initiative.
