CM Dhami Launches Book on Student Wellness in Higher Education
Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami released the book “Sustainable Wellness of Students: A Collective Responsibility in Higher Education” during a special event held at the Chief Minister’s residence auditorium on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Dhami emphasized the need for universities and higher education institutions to adopt effective strategies that address the psychological challenges faced by students. He appreciated the timely publication of the book and expressed the desire for a Hindi version to be made available to ensure broader outreach.
The Chief Minister highlighted that under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Uttarakhand was among the first states to implement the new National Education Policy (NEP). He noted that along with providing quality education and skill development, there is a strong focus on student well-being. Dhami stressed the importance of transforming higher educational institutions into not only centers of knowledge but also hubs for student welfare and mental wellness.
The book, jointly edited by Prof. Kamal Kishore Pandey (Director, Department of Higher Education, Uttarakhand), Prof. Lata Pandey (Head of the Home Science Department, DSB Campus, Kumaun University), and Dr. Ramanand (Director, Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi), explores various facets of student wellness in higher education. It also outlines the roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders involved in supporting student mental health and holistic development.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Dr. Devendra Bhasin, Vice Chairman of the Higher Education Reform Committee; Dr. Jaipal Chauhan; BJP State General Secretary Shri Aditya Kothari; Director General of UCOST Prof. Durgesh Pant; and Dr. K.D. Purohit.
