Yogi govt approves Rs 5 crore for upgrading hostels for backward class students in nine districts
Lucknow : In a major step towards enhancing educational support for backward class students, the Yogi Adityanath-led government has approved significant administrative and financial aid for hostel improvements across nine districts of Uttar Pradesh. Acting on Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directive, the state government has sanctioned approximately Rs 5 crore under the Backward Class Hostel Maintenance Scheme for the financial year 2025–26.
According to the official order issued by the government, the allocated funds will be utilized to upgrade hostel facilities in Lucknow, Prayagraj, Bahraich, Gonda, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Moradabad, Meerut, and Sant Ravidas Nagar. These enhancements will directly benefit students from backward communities enrolled in educational institutions in these districts.
The maintenance work will include building repairs, painting, improved electricity and drinking water facilities, and other essential upgrades.
To ensure good quality work, a special committee will be formed at the government level to monitor all activities. After the work is completed, a physical inspection will also be carried out to maintain transparency. The government has clearly instructed that there should be no compromise on quality.
At the local level, the District Backward Class Welfare Officer along with the heads or principals of the concerned institutions will supervise the work. These officials have been directed to regularly inspect the progress and quality of work and send reports to the government.
Under this scheme, maintenance and improvement work will be carried out in several major educational institutions across the state. These include:
