Trains to run from Earmarked Platforms at Sealdah for different sections.

Sealdah is one of the busiest stations in India as it caters to 15 – 18 lakh commuters a day while serving as the transportation lifeline for Kolkata and its suburbs. On an average 915 suburban locals ply everyday across the Division. On account of huge passenger rush during morning and evening peak hours, passengers face inconvenience in movement within station premises and concourse area at Sealdah station.

In an endeavour to streamline train operations, ensure crowd management and enhanced predictability for esteemed commuters, Sealdah Division has decided to nominate specific platforms for different trains pertaining to different suburban sections, viz., Sealdah South, Bongaon / Hasnabad, Krishnanagar / Gede, Dankuni Section etc.  This initiative is also aimed at segregating passenger flow of different sections, preventing crisscross movement for better public convenience.

The platform allocations for different suburban sections have been reorganised as detailed hereunder:

1. Platform Number 1 to 5 will primarily cater to suburban services bound for main line sections, i.e., Krishnanagar, Gede, Shantipur, Ranaghat, Naihati, Kalyani Simanta & Barrackpore.

• Platform Number 5 to 8 will primarily cater to suburban services bound for CCR sections, i.e., Dankuni & Baruipara.

• Platform Number 6 to 8 & 10 will primarily serve suburban services bound for Central Sections, viz., Bongaon, Barasat, Habra, Duttapukur, Gobardanga, Thakurnagar, Hasnabad, Dumdum Cantonment & Madhyamgram.

     4.  Platform 9 & 11 to 14 will cater to Mail / Express services.

     5.  Platform Number 15 to 21 will cater to suburban services for Sealdah South Section only, i.e., Canning, Komagata Maru Budge Budge, Namkhana, Diamond Harbour, Baruipur, Sonarpur, Kakdwip, Lakshmikantapur.

The primary objective of this significant exercise is to ensure safety, security, improved circulation and smoother operations during peak hours. Dedication of specific platforms for particular sections will certainly de-congest platform area by helping passengers in navigating the station more easily and avoid near misses. Further, it will embolden Railway authority to manage train schedules and movement more efficiently by reducing likelihood of delays and cancellations.

The segregations of platforms for different sections at Sealdah Station will certainly play a pivotal role in improving operational efficiency and providing better passenger experience.
