Kavitha Seeks EC Clarification Over Alleged Large-Scale Voter Roll Changes in Kodangal

Hyderabad, June 2026 : Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) leader K. Kavitha on Monday demanded a detailed clarification from the Election Commission of India (ECI) over what she described as large-scale changes in the electoral rolls of Kodangal Assembly constituency, represented by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

Addressing a press conference, the former Member of Parliament alleged that official records and data compiled by her party indicate that nearly one lakh out of the constituency’s total 2.46 lakh voters had their electoral details modified during the last one-and-a-half years. She said the scale of these changes warrants a public explanation from the Election Commission.

Kavitha claimed that the scrutiny undertaken by her party had revealed several irregularities in the voters’ list, including duplicate entries and instances of voters allegedly being registered simultaneously in Telangana and neighbouring Karnataka.

According to her, around 22,433 duplicate voter entries were identified in Kodangal during the party’s review of the electoral rolls. She further alleged that nearly 11,000 voters were found to be enrolled both in Kodangal Assembly constituency and Karnataka’s neighbouring Sedam Assembly constituency.

She said these findings raised serious concerns about the accuracy and integrity of the electoral rolls and questioned how such discrepancies could have remained undetected.

“The Election Commission must publicly clarify how one lakh voters in Kodangal had their details modified within just 18 months. It should also explain how duplicate and inter-state voter registrations have continued despite regular verification exercises,” she said.

Kavitha further claimed that nearly 33,000 duplicate voter entries had been identified, a figure she said was higher than the victory margin recorded in the 2023 Assembly elections from Kodangal.

Referring to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s electoral victory, she questioned whether the alleged duplicate and inter-state voter registrations could have influenced the election outcome.

“If the Chief Minister won by a margin close to the number of duplicate entries, the Election Commission should explain whether these duplicate and inter-state votes had any impact on the final result,” she said.

The TRS leader alleged that the discrepancies were giving rise to doubts over the Election Commission’s functioning and questioned whether the poll body was extending favourable treatment to the Chief Minister.

She urged the Commission to make all relevant records public to ensure transparency and restore public confidence in the electoral process.

“It is not just money that is crossing from Karnataka into Telangana. Are votes also being transferred?” Kavitha asked while raising concerns over the alleged inter-state duplication of voters.

Calling for broader electoral reforms, Kavitha advocated the concept of “One Nation, One Election, One Vote,” arguing that every eligible citizen should have only one valid voter registration irrespective of migration from one state to another.

She said that unless duplicate voter registrations across states are effectively identified and removed, the objective of the Election Commission’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls would remain unfulfilled.

Emphasising the need for greater transparency, Kavitha also questioned the variation in voter deletions across constituencies. She claimed that only 808 votes had been removed from Kodangal in recent years, while nearly 7,000 names were deleted from the electoral rolls of Bodhan Assembly constituency.

The TRS leader, who is widely expected to contest the next Assembly elections from Bodhan, sought an explanation for the difference in the number of deletions and called on the Election Commission to provide complete details to the public to dispel doubts surrounding the voter verification process.
