Secretary of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Inspects Waste-to-Energy Plant at Langadiyawas, Jaipur
Jaipur, Aug 25: Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, Mr. Khatikithala Srinivas, visited the Solid Waste-Based Waste-to-Energy Plant located at Langadiyawas village in Jamwa Ramgarh, Jaipur district on Friday. This plant is a flagship initiative under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) of the Rajasthan Government and is being operated by Jindal Urban Waste Management (Jaipur) Limited under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Director of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), Mr. Juikar Pratik Chandrashekhar, and Commissioner of Jaipur Municipal Corporation (Heritage), Dr. Nidhi Patel, briefed Mr. Srinivas about various sanitation and environmental conservation initiatives being undertaken by the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Bhajan Lal Sharma and guided by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. Senior officials and engineers from the Department of Local Self-Government and the Municipal Corporation were also present during the visit.
Mr. Srinivas took a detailed briefing from the Plant Head regarding the plant’s operations, advanced technologies employed, waste-to-energy conversion processes, and the environmental benefits achieved through this project. He also toured the entire facility to observe its functioning firsthand.
Commending the joint efforts of the Department of Local Self-Government, Jaipur Municipal Corporation, and the Jindal Group, Mr. Srinivas stated that this plant stands as an excellent example of how public and private sectors can collaboratively address urban challenges through sustainable solutions. He emphasized that the plant not only aids in solid waste management but also plays a significant role in generating renewable energy and ensuring a cleaner environment.
Key Features of the Waste-to-Energy Plant:
Operational since February 2025, the plant processes approximately 1000 metric tons of solid waste daily, generating around 12 megawatt-hours of electricity per day, which yields an income of nearly ₹2.5 crore for the Municipal Corporation. This plant contributes significantly to reducing landfill waste, promoting renewable energy, and fostering a circular economy.
