Tamil Nadu Co-operative Sugar Mills Felicitated with National Awards for Excellence

Chennai, Aug 25 : In recognition of outstanding performance, five Co-operative Sugar Mills from Tamil Nadu have been honoured with national awards presented by the National Federation of Co-operative Sugar Factories (NFCSF). The awards were presented in a ceremony at the Secretariat today, where Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr. M.K. Stalin lauded the achievements of the state’s co-operative sugar sector.

During the event, the Chief Minister also handed over sanction orders for profit-sharing bonuses amounting to ₹22.60 crore for Kallakurichi-2 and Subramania Siva Co-operative Sugar Mills.

On July 3, 2025, at an award function held in New Delhi, the NFCSF honoured five Tamil Nadu co-operative sugar mills for their exemplary performance in the 2023-24 crushing season. These mills were awarded for various categories, including operational efficiency, financial management, and technological advancement.

The awarded mills are:

  1. Arur Co-operative Sugar Mill – First Prize for Best Overall Operational Efficiency.
  2. Subramania Siva Co-operative Sugar Mill – First Prize for Best Overall Operational Efficiency.
  3. Kallakurichi-2 Co-operative Sugar Mill – Second Prize for Cane Development.
  4. Chengalpattu Co-operative Sugar Mill – Second Prize for Financial Management.
  5. Thirupathur (Vellore) Co-operative Sugar Mill – Third Prize for Technological Innovation.

The Chief Minister, along with Minister for Environment and Sugarcane Development Mr. E. Meyyanathan, presented these awards during a special felicitation ceremony at the Secretariat.

The awards reflect the Tamil Nadu Government’s sustained efforts to enhance the performance and profitability of co-operative sugar mills. Strategic measures to improve cane procurement prices and increase mill efficiency have helped the mills recover from previous financial challenges.

Further, the Chief Minister distributed bonus sanction orders of ₹10.23 crore for Subramania Siva Co-operative Sugar Mill (for the financial years 2017-18 to 2023-24) and ₹12.37 crore for Kallakurichi-2 Co-operative Sugar Mill (for the financial years 2019-20 to 2023-24), totaling ₹22.60 crore in profit-sharing bonuses for the mill workers.

Present at the occasion were Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin, Chief Secretary Mr. N. Muruganandam, Additional Chief Secretary Mr. S. Venkateshamurthy, Director of Sugar Department Mr. D. Anbalagan, along with other senior government officials.
